Emma Durham, 22, a senior from Jackson, Tennessee, at Western Kentucky University, studying Art History and Visual Studies, and American Sign Language, poses on the porch of her home in Bowling Green, Ky, nicknamed "the big blue house", with her embroidery project on Friday, April 24, 2026. The project is a gift for her friend, who she has lived with since their freshman year. "I wanted to commemorate our last college house". Durham chose an embroidery project because "it feels much more personal, and every time I sit down to work on it, I feel like I'm carrying on a tradition passed on for generations". Even though Durham taught herself how to embrodier, she shared "I feel so connected to generations of women who have sat and quilted, needlepointed, embroidered, and mended just like I did with this project".
